First Day of School

Posted on

Tomorrow is my first day of graduate school.

Tomorrow I begin my coursework to get a Master’s degree in literature from the University of Memphis.  I did not plan to wait until I was 35 years old to start this process, or to put it off until I had two children and twelve years of teaching experience behind me.  But, as a wise man once said, life is what happens when you’re busy blah blah blah something something.
Though the Brame family is already a busy one, we’re looking forward to being even busier.  And I’m looking forward to teaching my children an exciting new vocabulary that comes along with being a student–words like parsimony, impecuniousness, and penury.
See?  We’re learning new things already!
If everything goes according to plan, I’ll receive my degree some time in mid-2015.  Wish me luck.

  1. Good for you! I am in the same process, but I am applying for the MFA program at 30. It feels pretty awesome. Also, I thought I saw you at Stone Soup the other day, and it wasn't you, but I was brave enough to ask. I am a long time reader of your blog and love that their is a hyper literate person blogging in Memphis. Good luck with class!

  2. Amy and James: Thanks! I definitely appreciate the support.

Ashley: Thank you, also, and it's nice to meet you. (And I hope the stranger at Stone Soup was polite!) Good luck to you, too, in the application process–I found it to be relatively painless, once I got through with the GRE.
