Saying Goodbye to Lee Patterson

Posted on
Today is the memorial for Lee Patterson, who taught me for six weeks during my seminar at Yale University.  He passed away in June at the age of 72.

Dr. Lee Patterson was an incredible teacher and mentor, and I am fortunate that I had the opportunity to spend a summer in his classroom.  All of us from the NEH seminar of 2010 were touched by his generosity and brilliance, and we were all heartbroken to hear of his death.

For a better understanding of what a formidable scholar Lee was, read his obituary on the Yale website.

It’s hard to believe that two years have passed since our unforgettable summer at Yale.  Tempus fugit.

  1. In my memory there were more people in our class. I've thought of Lee often this summer. I think I'm itching to take another course, but I don't think his can be topped. He was one of the best.
